Stacy Handley

nurse practitioner, clinical coordinator, Montana Pediatric Project

With Stacy Handley's help, critically ill children are receiving treatment in Montana. Handley has played a key role in establishing the Montana Pediatric Project, the only pediatric intensive care unit in Montana.

"Through the Montana Pedicatric Project, we have evaluated the gaps formulated and enacted a plan to address those needs," Handley said. "One need we have identified is the lack of critical care for children in Montana. We have also worked to improve pediatric education for healthcare providers in rural areas through outreach classes."

Handley remembers that her mother was the first to suggest that she would be well suited for a career in nursing.

Toughest business decision: "To turn down another opportunity when I was presented with the chance to be the clinical coordinator for the Montana Pediatric Project. What I learned is that sometimes you have to trust your heart and gut instincts when making a difficult decision."

How would you make Billings a better place? "Billings is an amazing town in which to live and raise a family. If there is one thing I would like to have healthcare available and affordable for all children in our community."

What do you consider your greatest achievement? "Getting my master's degree in nursing and becoming a nurse practitioner."

Which living person do you most admire? "My husband, Mike."
